Keeweb
Keeweb is a web-based client for KeePass password databases. It provides browser access to your password vault without requiring desktop software installation. The tool can be self-hosted, allowing you to access passwords from any device with a web browser while keeping the database on your own infrastructure.
The system works with standard KeePass database formats, so you can use the same password database across KeePassXC on desktop, KeePassDX on mobile, and Keeweb in a browser. This flexibility means you're not locked into any particular client while maintaining compatibility across all your devices.
Browser Access Trade-offs
Web-based password managers provide convenience at the cost of additional security considerations. You're trusting the web application, the browser, and the network connection. For a self-hosted instance, you control the application and can secure the network with VPN, but the browser remains a potential attack surface.
The convenience is real: access passwords from any device without installing software. The security concern is also real: browsers are complex and have larger attack surfaces than dedicated password manager applications. Whether the trade-off makes sense depends on your threat model and how often you need browser-based access.
Configuration Status
This service is installed but not yet configured for production use. The evaluation is ongoing to determine whether browser-based password access provides enough value to justify the additional security considerations. For now, KeePassXC and KeePassDX handle password management across devices without requiring web access.
